RANDPARK RIDGE – U9s battle it out on the netball court.

Only the parents were keeping score when Trinityhouse Preparatory Randpark Ridge hosted Laerskool Fairland for a friendly U9 netball match on 9 May.

The match was part of Tryinityhouse hosting the 15th National Rugby Festival for Preparatory Schools over the weekend.

The young girls giggled while prancing to their starting positions before play, knowing that neither team would officially win.

Fairland started well and scored twice quickly.

But Trinityhouse responded confidently and scored to make it 2–1 after two minutes.

Fairland proceeded to take a hold of the game through quick running and passing. They dominated possession and territory as fathers on the sidelines shouted “mooi!” to their daughters. When Triniyhouse gained possession they often gave the ball away and had to quickly fall back to defend Fairland’s relentless attacks.

At one point, a Trinityhouse player fell and scraped her knee. Both sides rushed to comfort her. When the match was over, Trinityhouse sang a ‘well done’ war cry to the Fairland team. “I think it was lovely,” said Trinity coach Megan Nicol.

She added that her team played “extremely hard” but it was a difficult match. Fairland coach Lize Schoeman said, “They [the players] enjoyed it a lot. That is the most important thing.” Unofficially, the match ended 13–2 to Laerskool Fairland.
