Criminal in the cupboard

ROBIN HILLS – Criminal plays hide-and-seek with a man and his family in their house in Pommern Avenue.

On 7 May at around 6pm a man spotted a criminal hiding in a cupboard in his house and a fight ensued shortly thereafter.

Greg Pearce from Community Support Services (CSS) explained that they were one of the first responders on the scene in Pommern Avenue.

“What happened is the homeowner’s son saw a suspect hiding in his cupboard and he went to call his father. He then approached the perpetrator who became anxious and stabbed him in his hand with a knife.”

Pearce added that the father and son overpowered the criminal and tied him up.

“The next door neighbour called us and we in turn called ER24 Emergency Services who attended to the homeowner and the perpetrator,” he added.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak confirmed that they were on scene and said that the man had serious injuries in his one hand and the perpetrator was in a critical condition when he was taken to Baragwanath Hospital with multiple stab wounds to his chest.

“The suspect can be linked to housebreakings in the surrounding area over the last few weeks,” concluded Pearce.

Comment from Linden Police is awaited.
