Car seat drive launches

RANDBURG CBD – Dekra Safe Child is launched nationwide by vehicle roadworthy company.

Dekra Automotive South Africa, is supporting the United Nation’s Global Road Safety Week, 4 to 10 May, by launching its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) child car seat initiative. The vehicle inspection and roadworthy company based in the Randburg CBD seeks to highlight the plight of children travelling on the world’s roads and generate action to better ensure their safety.

Dekra South Africa CEO and road safety spokesperson Garth Johnson said everything they do at Dekra is about making vehicles safe to drive, to improve road safety and save lives. “Through Dekra Safe Child, we invite members of the public to donate previously-owned child car seats that they no longer need at any one of our 42 vehicle inspection and roadworthy branches countrywide, and we will ensure that the seats reach those who cannot afford the price of a new one,” said Johnson.

He added that giving back to the underprivileged is a humbling thing to do, especially with the new car seat legislation that was sign in on 3 May. The legislation states that every child under the age of three has to be in a car seat. “We have the community that supports us so we need to pay it forward to those that need us,” said Johnson.

Dekra has partnered with Wheel Well, a charity organisation founded by Peggie Mars in 2001 with an aim for children to be safe while in a vehicle.

Dekra has donated R30 000 to Wheel Well to help the NGO. Mars expressed her gratitude to Dekra supporting the need for child safety on South African roads.

Johnson has put out a challenge to businesses as well as the community to each donate at least one car seat and, in turn, Derka will perform a free safety car check on their vehicle.
