RANDPARK – A food market has opened for all 'banters' in the Randburg area.

Banters came together at the Randpark Golf Club on 6 May for the opening of the first Banting food market in the Randburg area. The Banting diet is a low carb (LCHF) diet and has helped many, according to the food market’s organiser Wendy Kilroe-Daley. “There wasn’t a food market to cater for the people on the Banting diet in the Randburg area, so I thought that it was imperative to start this to support the Banting community,” she said.

Kilroe-Daley explained that she hopes to have the market at least once a month. However, if there is a need she will open the market twice a month. “I want the community to make coming to the market a family affair. They can enjoy themselves with healthy eating and bonding,” added Kilroe-Daley.

Owners of the Banting Divas stall Tania Smit and Koekoes Vorster have been on the diet for the last six months and have each lost 28kg. They started looking for Banting recipes after they started their diet and now have come up with their own range of Banting delights to support other Banters.

Corrados Pesto and Sauces co-owner Camille Consiglio, said that people that are on a diet do not have to suffer; they can still have nice tasteful food that is good for them.

Shopper Raz Arnold explained how the diet has helped her feel great about herself. “It is the best thing to have ever happened to me. It brought me back from being a border-line diabetic.”
