Pupil allegedly raped in local bar

Randpark Ridge – A teenager who was allegedly raped in Randpark Ridge says she does not remember most parts of the incident as she had too much to drink.

Recently, a 17-year-old pupil was allegedly raped in a Randpark Ridge sports bar rest room.

“I went to [the bar] and I had a few drinks and I got drunk. I went to the bathroom to go [throw up] and some guy came with me…he held my hair while I was throwing up and then he tried to kiss me,” recalled the high school pupil.

The teenager added that she explicitly told the man to stop his attempts.

“He kept on trying to kiss me and I kept saying no and he said let’s have sex and I kept saying no. I can’t remember clearly what happened but I was trying to leave and he said no.”

She stated, she did not remember everything she drank on the night of the alleged attack.

The Weltevreden Park resident said she was a regular at this sports bar and she was never asked for an ID.

“I never used to buy alcohol there,” she said adding that someone else [not the alleged rapist] bought her alcohol.

The mother to the teenager said, “I want [parents] to be aware that all the places are letting underage people into their shops were they shouldn’t be and they must be careful”.

The owner of the bar where the incident allegedly happened said, “I have no comment on the matter as it is still under investigation.”

“We don’t sell alcohol to minors. There are two areas, the outside area where people could come and braai and the bar area where no one under the age of 18 was allowed.

”Since it has been brought to my attention that friends buy alcohol for others, I have implemented a law that no one comes [to the facility] if they are under 18 even though they are coming to the outside area which is completely separate from the bar,” he said.

According to the owner, this is the first alleged incident at the bar and there are bouncers at the door who have been instructed to check IDs.
