MULTIMEDIA: 2015 Chutzpah Adventure

NORTHWOLD – A couple of Rough Riders go for a rough journey throughout South Africa.

Dave Barr’s Rough Riders departed from Anne Harding Cheshire Home on 15 April, for their Chutzpah Adventure.

The 6 400km motorcycle tour around South Africa started in Randburg and will end in Soweto on 30 April. Double-amputee and inspirational motorcycle adventurist Dave Barr is leading himself and his team of Rough Riders around the country to raise awareness for the Leonard Cheshire Foundations and QuadPara Association of South Africa. “The sky is the limit, we set our own boundary. What we can do we should do across the world,” said Barr. Harley Davidson Bloemfontein, Gold Rand and Zambezi sponsored the adventure and will be accompanying the riders.

Ann Harding Cheshire Home national chairman Phil Hall said, “We are extremely happy to host the starting point on this epic journey. Dave Barr has helped many people all over the world and this tour will bring much needed awareness to people with physical disabilities.”

Barr is a US marine and has served his country in many ways. It is during the war in Angola where an antitank mine explosion lead to both of his legs being amputated in 1981. In addition to his two Guinness World Records, he is also an author of two books, Riding Ice and Riding the Edge.

“Life is a privilege, it is not a right. It can be taken in a twinkling of an eye,” commented Barr.

Listen to Barr speak about the journey further:

Lyndall Roman chairman of Ann Harding Cheshire Homes said, “We are really privileged to have such a legendary man riding for such a worthy cause. He and his team will help reshape minds all over South Africa about people dealing with physical disabilities.”
