RANDPARK RIDGE – Driver helpless as vehicle bursts into flames.

A car burned down for no apparent reason on Ysterhout Drive, Randpark Ridge, in the afternoon on 13 April. No one was hurt. Metro Police, City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) and VitalMed attended to the scene.

The owner of the car, Victor Tumelo, said he and his wife were travelling west, from Rabie Street, when smoke started rising from the bonnet.

“By the time I stopped and tried to open the bonnet it was already burning,” he said, visibly shaken.

Tumelo said the incident “just happened” and he had no idea why.

He added that his car was serviced in March. The incident left the pavement littered with burned plastic and rubber, and a foul smell in the air.
