Meet Celeste

JOBURG – Former Miss South Africa Teen Celeste Khumalo hopes to inspire young women.

Celeste Khumalo is on a mission to spread self-confidence.

Khumalo came into the spotlight when she was crowned Miss South Africa Teen 2011, and this year, she is the face of the Pond’s Selfie Confidence Campaign.

The Pond’s campaign includes a series of national school road shows to empower pupils about face care and its role in self-confidence.

Randburg’s Radley College is one of the schools that witnessed the campaign.

The Corporate Communications BA degree holder is an advocate for independence through education. “Being independent has always been important to me, it gives a person freedom to make their own choices. Pushing for an education should be a priority. People think that making it on television or being a socialite equals success and it is not really the case. It is about what you know and knowing what to do. It is really about what you have to back you up – which should be your education,” she stressed.

She also encourages women empowerment.

“Women need to realise that riding the wave will not lead to success but rather educating yourselves will and working really hard and also being patient.”

Khumalo is currently studying toward her honours degree in Integrated Corporate Communications and owns a nail bar business in Pretoria.

Her long-term ambitions are growing as a business woman and furthering her studies. One day, she hopes to get to a point where she can fund start-ups and be the ‘go-to’ person regarding small-enterprises.

Khumalo’s advice to young women:

• Look after yourself.

• Don’t need to know what you want right know but you must have a vision of where you want to be.

• Make your life valuable enough to endorse.

• Study hard, educate yourself.

• Believe that you will make it – you have to believe something.

• Listen to your parents, they will always want what is best for you.

• Dream big and work hard. Take risks that will benefit you in more than one way. Pray and believe.
