Gauteng schools open doors for 2016 enrolment

JOBURG – School registrations have began learn the do’s and dont’s.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) opened its doors on 13 April for all pupils wishing to enrol for the academic year of 2016.

Parents of pupils are advised to retrieve registration forms from schools closest to where they live, which are to be returned between 21 April and 26 May.

Due to the rise and greater demand for education, schools in the area have stated that the waiting period can start from as early as 4am on 21 April.

According to the GDE, they doubled their expected admission by over 30 000 late applications for the year of 2015.

Although the department has a constitutional obligation, parents are reminded of the first-come-first-served basis.

This is due to the amount of both human and educational resources.

“By applying now, you will be enabling us to plan properly. No applications will be accepted in January 2016,” says MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi.

The list of requirements for a pupil’s registration is as follows:

– Certified copy of birth certificate

– Proof of the parent’s residential or work address

– Immunisation card for Grade 1

– Latest report card

– Parents’ copy of identity document

– Study permit for legal immigrants

– If not a biological parent, proof of legal guardianship

– For some schools, if a sibling is already in attendance, a copy of their report is necessary.

Parents are advised to have at least two copies of each of the requirements. Also, the school in question must provide written, dated and signed proof of the time of registration.
