UPDATE: Two arrested in Cosmo riot

COSMO CITY – Residents arrested for public violence and malicious damage to property.

Police have confirmed that two people were arrested during the riot at Cosmo City on 8 April. An angry crowd blocked roads, burned objects in the street and threw stones at police after a sheriff tried to evict one family from a house. Speaking on 9 April, Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said that a heavy police presence had kept the peace the following day.

However, during the riot two people were arrested and charged with public violence and malicious damage to property. Their case was opened at the Cosmo City Police Station, and they will appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 10 April.
