Squash action at Easter fest

RANDBURG – Local schools show their talent at squash.

RANDBURG – Local schools performed admirably at squash on the last day of the St Stithians College Easter Sports Festival, 6 April. Northcliff High School may have lost their fixture with Kingswood College, by losing 3–2 in matches, but they won 11 games versus their opponents’ nine. St Stithians Girls College beat Egoli Girls 17–6 in games, and the Saints boys beat Alban’s College 12–7 in games.

The squash tournament was played in a round robin, with no formal winner. “This was a good test,” said Northcliff coach Mike Tootill. “We need to focus more and get fitter and stronger.” He added that the tournament was good preparation for the Top Schools tournament for central Gauteng at the end of May.

Saints girls coach Cindy Purchase said that her players were “fantastic”. She added that it helped that she could coach her players in between games. Saints boys coach Mike Bester also said that his players played well. “Our strength lies in the depth we have at the school,” he said. “We are in a good position for the next couple of years.”
