GALLERY: Where does the money go?

NORTH RIDING – What happens to proceeds from the charity and book shops at the Randburg SPCA?

Following questions on what happens to proceeds collected from the charity and book stores, the Randburg SPCA has responded to the pressing issues regarding expenditure of charity donation proceeds.

Randburg SPCA’s general manager Craig Rudmana said, “The proceeds collected from the charity and book store make up about one third of the expenditure we use to keep running.”

He added that all the funds from the stores are directly deposited into the bank account.

“We use the money to pay utility bills, such as water and lights. The SPCA also has to pay staff wages and salaries of both the charity and book stores, as well as the centre staff.”

According to Rudman, the proceeds are generally not used for food due to the great generosity of the community when donating food.

“If we do use the money for animal food it will go toward food for animals with special dietary needs.”

The SPCA uses vehicles daily for inspections and rescues, among other errands. These vehicles, according to Rudman, need to be serviced and they need diesel to run, which is where some of the money is used.

Among the utility, wage and maintenance costs, Randburg SPCA has to pay for vet bills for the animals that are brought in by the public.

“We are very grateful for all the support the community gives us, whether it is through donations to the charity shops or even buying from them. All donations are valued,” Rudman concluded..
