HONEYDEW – A lioness attacks unwitting Australian visitor.

An Australian tourist got a real taste of Africa when he received a nasty bite by a lion at the The Lion Park on 26 March.

Brendon Smith had barely been in South Africa for more than 36 hours when the incident happened.

Smith was driving through the Park with his friend in the driver seat and, according to the Lion Park’s assistant operations manager Scott Simpson, the two visitors stopped at one point for the driver to take a picture of his friend.

It was then, while he had his back to an open passenger window that the lioness decided to pounce. The lioness stuck her head through the open window and bit Smith on the left leg.

Smith was immediately rushed to Fourways Life Hospital to have his injuries treated. Simpson visited Smith the next day in hospital where, according to Simpson, “He apologised for not obeying the park rules of closing your windows, which is posted all over the Park and on a piece of paper he was handed at the entrance.”
