Claw in for a new cattery

NORTH RIDING – Randburg SPCA is clawing at local businesses to help build a new cattery.

Help SPCA Randburg build their new cattery.

The plan is to have five to six new pens for the cats. Each pen will have a trunk for scratching, a large Wendy-house for shelter and an awning as well as some astroturf. “The reason we need these catteries is to encourage healthy development of the kittens as well as the cats. Cats thrive on sunlight and as such the area will help the cats be happier and healthier during their stay with us,” said kennel manager, Leigh De Beaufort.

The current cattery houses mom cats and kittens. Dog lovers do not despair; the newly proposed designs will enable the current cattery to be used for puppies.

Further on during the project, a new sick bay will be built with a large window for ventilation and a larger wash station. “This will help prevent the spread of any diseases; a well-ventilated room with lots of sunlight helps prevent disease. It will save hundreds of cats’ lives,” said De Beaufort.

The cats will be able to roam free in their small patch of garden which will be half-paved with cement and astroturf. The Wendy-houses will be used as housing. A tall fence and wall will be built with top meshing to keep the curious cats inside.

SPCA Randburg appeals to businesses and residents to claw into their pockets to help make this dream a reality. Here is a list of materials:

They are also in desperate need of blankets and food. With the rapidly cooling weather, their animals need to keep warm and fed.
