Scratch improves Linden

LINDEN – Faith-based group receives permission to carry out upgrades.

Scratch is spicing Linden up and making the suburb beautiful.

The social responsibility arm of Die Akker Church in Linden has received permission from the City of Johannesburg to perform low-key maintenance and upgrades.

Decorative stones, plants and flowers are found on the kerb outside Linden Square.

These include painting road lines and traffic lights, stencilling road names, repairing potholes and removing rubbish.

A current project of Scratch is beautifying part of the kerb outside Linden Square.

Ward 99 councillor Bruce Herbert enjoys what Scratch is doing in Linden.

While one kerb already looks great, Scratch is laying decorative stones and planting flowers and plants on the corner of 8th Street and 4th Avenue. “Our heart is to see maintenance ongoing,” said Scratch project manager Roy Carlsson.

“God would not be happy if we let things deteriorate.”

Ward 99 councillor Bruce Herbert said that he loved what Scratch is doing.

He said “I especially liked it because residents are improving the suburb themselves.”

Scrath’s future projects include constructing a bus stop and public toilets near Linden Square.
