VIDEO and GALLERY: Cansa shavathon

RAND PARK – The Cansar shavathon saw many pony tails and colourful hair at Northgate and Randpark Ridge.

Shave, spray, donate for a cancer survivor, and that is exactly what happened at Randpark Ridge and Northgate shopping centres on 28 February.

Early hours of the morning brought men, women and children to the Northgate shopping centre in order to shave or spray their hair for Cancer Shavathon.

Kerryn Marcus, Northgate’s floor manager and a breast cancer survivor commented, ”There were some lovely families that came through in support of family members who are courageously fighting the fight. Or those who have recently lost their fight an gained their angel wings.”

One brave woman, Andrea le Cordier decided to cut her long, curly locks and shave her head.

About 430 people come through between the two days.

Marcus collected 15 pony tails for wigs and to date has tallied up R22 000 for Cansa.

Randpark Ridge Shopping Centre saw droves of people showing their support.

Shaun Harris, a swimmer for Tuks and in training for the 2016 Olympics as well as a testicular cancer survivor, showed his support.

His training partner Darren Murray wowed onlookers as he let his team mate Harris shave and cut his curly hair.

HOT 91.9fm broadcasted their morning show at the centre and all got sprayed in an array of colours.

Wendy and Leslie van der Walt, who are floor managers, were proud and excited at the amazing turn out they had received, ”The HOT 91.9fm guys did a really amazing job today, and they not only entertained the listeners and crowds but helped spread the message.”
