New alarm aids Honeydew Cluster

HONEYDEW – New alarm system in the Honeydew Cluster will help prevent domestic crime.

Major General Oswald Reddy’s Honeydew Police Cluster aided the conception of a new alarm system in the Honeydew Cluster.

The inception of the alarm system was due to Maj Gen Reddy’s concern over domestic violence-related crimes and burglaries in Diepsloot.

They noticed that the perpetrators’ modus operandi includes the incapacitation and isolation of victims through seizing their cellphones.

That necessitated the use of other forms of technology to empower victims of crime.

The first Memeza Community Safety Home Alarm was installed on 23 February, in Diepsloot Ext 2.

According to Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, spokesperson of the Honeydew Cluster Commander, the South African Police Service in Diepsloot and Memeza Crime Prevention are partnering to pilot the home alarm over the next six months.

WO Mavimbela said the home alarm can be activated either manually through a remote control or automatically when an unlawful entry is gained into a house.

He further added that when triggered, the alarm system will generate SMSs to the local police sector vans, CPF personnel and any other persons nominated by the home owner.

Simultaneously, the alarm’s bright red light will flash.

That will enable SMS recipients and passers-by to easily identify the house where help is sought.
