Beware: housebreaking and robberies increase

LINDEN – What crimes in Linden are on the increase, find out and be aware.

Housebreaking and robberies and theft out of motor vehicles are on the increase in Linden.

This is according to the crime statistics of the area released by Pexco Training and Security, (formerly Linden Block Watch). Fareed Hoosen, manager of the guarding division of Pexco Training and Security commented that theft out of motor vehicles at the Linden Swimming Pool at the corner of 11th Street and 4th Avenue has increased.

Hoosen warned residents, “Please don’t just assume that car guards will look after your vehicle. Check on your car regularly. Remove valuables. Lock with the key.”

Captain Alex Vermaak, operations manager of Linden Police stated, ”We are very concerned about the increase of housebreaking and robberies.”

Hoosen added, “Wall hopping and burglaries are still a problem. Secure your properties at the back please! The guys are jumping between properties every night and we can’t realistically see them from the street while on patrol.”

Capt Vermaak explained, “Although housebreakings are lower than this time last year, they are still a point of concern. The stats are still high; we need to be careful and vigilant.”

Pexco and Linden SAPS urge residents in the area to be the first line of security.

This means ensuring that all security gates are locked and if alarms are present that they are armed at all times.
