VIDEO: The Parlotones’ music breaks new ground

GREENSIDE – The Parlotones and Sony Mobile South Africa make the first live high-res audio recordings available to local audiences.

Leading rock outfit, The Parlotones has collaborated with Sony Mobile South Africa to be the first local band to provide live high-res audio recordings to their fans.

The stars hosted a listening session that took place at The Open Room in Greenside on 18 February.

The four tracks will be available exclusively to Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact users through the preloaded Xperia Lounge application.

The recording took place at the iconic music venue, Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town in January, at the finale of the band’s Good to Great summer tour.

“The concert afforded us the opportunity to record four live tracks in high-res audio. Our fans just don’t get to listen to our music in this quality,” said Kahn Morbee, lead vocalist of The Parlotones.

“The man in the street hears music that has been compressed down to a MP3 file, which compromises audio quality. It’s like trying to watch an epic block-buster on an aeroplane screen – you just don’t get the whole picture. By making these new high-res audio formats available, we are enriching the listening experience for our fans by letting them hear music the way it should be heard,” he added.

Andrew Fraser, Sony Mobile communications, channel marketing manager for South Africa said, “Essentially we are bringing music lovers studio quality live tracks that can be easily downloaded through the Xperia Lounge app, a free app for all Sony Xperia users. We view this partnership with The Parlotones as a great way to showcase the incredible high-resolution audio capabilities of the Sony Xperia Z3 series.”
