Randburg police get promoted

RANDBURG – Randburg SAPS says well done to some of their members and bid others farewell.

Members of the Randburg SAPS came together on 11 February to welcome new staff, and to congratulate members who got promoted.

It was also a bitter-sweet occasion as they had to bid farewell to some policemen.

Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Lettie Hugo conducted the ceremony, and gave a welcome speech.

“This day is a very exciting for some and for some it is a sad day as we say goodbye to them.”

The following members received promotions: André Cilliers was promoted to Major at the Information Management Centre; Chris Lessing from Captain to Major in the Detectives section and Phillipine Machatelebisi is now a Lieutenant.

Hlengani Robert Khoza was promoted from Captain to Lieutenant and was given the opportunity to be the Station Cmmander at Boskop SAPS.

His colleagues bade him farewell.

“He really was a committed officer and I hope that he never forgets Randburg,”said Brig Lettie Hugo.

Warrant Officer Richard Mfumba was bid farewell with songs from staff members at the Randburg SAPS.

Mfumba is retiring from the police force – he joined the force in 1982.

On 8 March 1993 he joined the Randburg SAPS.

”Richard was always willing to do anything; he was one of the most disciplined officers that we have had. He was willing to work on weekends. We at Randburg will certainly miss you, and thank you for all the hard work.You made us proud to be police officers. From the bottom of my heart I wish you all the best and enjoy the retirement,”said Brig Lettie Hugo

Throughout WO Mfumba’s career he was awarded the following: the medal for faithful service; SA Police 75th anniversary commemorative award; 10-year commemoration medal 1995– 2005; 25-year loyal service medal; 30-year loyal service medal and the soccer world cup support medal.
