Local photographer is for the birds

GOLDEN HARVEST PARK – Brian Farrell takes photos in Golden Harvest Park in his free time.

Brian Farrell (72) can often be found shooting birds in Golden Harvest Park, with a camera that is.

The Northwold resident is a semi-retired professional photographer with a fetish for photographing birds in his free time.

“I like the park because it is beautiful,” he says.

“My favourite object in the park is birds. Every picture is a challenge if you want to get something good.”

He explains that birds move unexpectedly, and capturing them in a favourable position is tricky but a “beautiful thing.”

Friends of Golden Harvest Park Committee member Pippa Wepener says that the group often uses his photos to promote the park, these photos are “brilliant”, and she appreciates having such a good photographer taking an interest in the park.

Farrell adds that he went into photography by accident. Apparently when he was 16 years old, Farrell brought a small snake home.

His mother said that he could have any hobby in the world, but not keep snakes.

So she gave him her old Zeiss Ikon camera and he has been taking photos ever since.

Farrell mostly photographs at functions, and makes family portraits.
