Samu, the young golfer

SUNDOWNER – Women’s Golf South Africa top ranked junior golfer Ivanna Samu.

Ivanna Samu, a pupil at Curro Aurora, has achieved some spectacular results in golf in recent months.

She is currently in Grade 11 and is the Women’s Golf South Africa (WGSA) top ranked junior golfer.

She is also ranked 142 in the world’s amateur rankings.

In 2014 she won the South Africa Women’s Amateur Match played at Ruimsig Country Club.

This qualified her to play in the SA Women’s Open at San Lameer where she unfortunately missed the cut.

In January 2015, she represented the South Africa Women’s elite squad that played in the Astor Trophy in Australia.

This tournament included Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.

Ivanna teed-up in the pairings with her childhood hero Bertine Strauss.

Together they won two, halved one and lost one of their matches.

Samu won three of her four singles’ matches and was the leading player in this format.

South Africa ended up in 4th place.

Samu then played in the Australian Amateur Open where she finished 60th.

Commenting on her participation in this event the young golfer said, ”I l learned so much about myself and from the older players. It is great to measure yourself on an international level and I’ve grown so much on a personal level too.”

Samu is part of the Curro Aurora golf team that participates in Southern Gauteng’s Inter-School Golf A-league.
