Corrupt officials and police imposters appear in court

RANDBURG – 10 Suspects involved in syndicate robberies of foreign-owned businesses appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Ten suspects, who are allegedly involved in two syndicates targeting foreign-owned businesses, appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 4 February.

According to the SAPS Journal Online, the syndicates targeted foreign businessmen, among others, Chinese, Somalis and Pakistanis for any valuables, particularly cash.

According to the SAPS Journal Online, “The suspects arrested comprised of 11 SARS officials, four SAPS members, two members of the Gauteng Traffic Police and one civilian.

”On 7 November 2013, members of the National Investigation Unit (NINU) arrested eight suspects for their alleged involvement in the robbery of a Pakistani businessman at his house in Randburg. Nine suspects allegedly approached the businessman and produced a ‘search warrant’ and demanded that he open his safe and thereafter made off with a substantial amount of money.”

With regard to the Randburg case of corruption, fraud, racketeering, robbery and housebreaking, NINU arrested a 10th suspect, Ephraim Seanego (31), who now also faces charges of unlawful possession of SAPS and SANDF uniforms.

The case has been postponed to 18 March.
