Suspects injured during a shootout

RANDBURG CBD – Two suspects and a Randburg Public Safety ambassador injured during a shootout with the police on 27 January around 3.30 pm.

The incident occurred on the corner of Sentrum and Oak avenues.

It is alleged that the suspects decided to use a hijacked car, when the Randburg SAPS together with Tracker picked up the signal and the police chased the car along Braam Fischer Drive.

The suspects ran and drove into a parking lot of a shopping mall where the suspects jumped out of the car.

They hid the car and removed a tracker but they did not know, about another hidden tracker.

According to a report from Randburg SAPS, members of the Flying Squad arrested four suspects aged between 27 and 33, and two unlicensed firearms were confiscated.

The Audi Q3 is believed to have been hijacked on 21 January in Olievenhoutbosch.

Randburg management district’ Public Safety ambassadors (PSA) reported that they saw the Gauteng Flying Squad all over and around the Randburg City Mall.

They heard a gunshot and then saw one suspect running through the passageway of the mall.

The PSAs chased the suspect until he was caught on the corner of Sentrum and Oak avenues.

They arrested the suspect and the Randburg Police arrived on the scene.

SAPS took him to the Randburg City Mall where three of the suspect’s accomplices were.

”One suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and is in a critical condition. The other suspect sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and leg and is in a moderate condition,’ ‘said spokesperson for Emer-G-Med, Danielle Dooley.

Emer-G-Med transported the critically injured patient to hospital under police guard.

The other injured suspect was transported by another service.

One of the PSA was injured on the leg while chasing the suspect and he was taken to Sandton Medic Clinic for treatment.
