Racism still a problem!

DOUGLASDALE – Police protest against racism allegations.

The Douglasdale SAPS protested on 29 January outside the station against racism.

It is alleged that a member in a management position at the station has used racial slurs against some staff members.

According to an anonymous source two cases have been opened against the person, but have not been dealt with.

Members from the National Office along with the unions came to the station to address the problem.

Acting Provincial Head Colonel Noxolo Kweza commented,”The official comment of the SAPS is that first and foremost, police members are all aware that they are not allowed to be or go slow nor be involved in a strike.”

Kweza added that when members have grievances, there are internal channels and procedures that they could follow in order to address those challenges.

“SAPS provincial management is aware of the challenges at the station and an investigation has been instituted.”

She insisted that investigations are continuing and they are looking at all the allegations.

“Once they are finalised, the members will be informed of the findings and the way forward.”
