Check mate Tristan

LINDEN – Tristan competes for JHB Metro in the South African Junior Chess Championships.

Check mate.

Tristan Kadenhe (14) once again played for his province in the South African Junior Chess Championships 2014 in Kimberley between 3 and 10 January.

The event hosts about 1 800 players ranging from U8 to U20.

Each team represents their province.

Kadenhe played for Johannesburg Metro Chess U16B team.

The team consists of 10 players with ages ranging from 14 to 16 years old.

Some of the provinces that his team played against were KwaZulu-Natal, Tswane and Western Province.

“I enjoyed it very much. It was very hot in Kimberley with the temperature reaching 40 degrees on some days. I also liked staying with my

friends as a team in the dorms,” says Kadenhe.

He played seven games, drawing four, losing one and winning one.

What is most impressive about his performance was his playing on the 2nd board which is the second best board in the competition for his team.

Kadenhe plays for the Randburg Chess Club during the rest of the year.

They play their games every Tuesday at 7.30pm to 11pm at the Blairgowrie Recreation Centre.

Currently the club is looking for another venue to host their team. If anyone knows of a venue for the club please contact the details

below.

The Randburg Chess Club’s next event will be on 31 January at the Blairgowrie Recreation Centre throughout the whole day.
