Kidnappers – bail denied

RANDBURG – Four kidnapping accused will remain in custody.

The case involving the kidnapping of a mother and her eight-month-old baby See previous story; continued at Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 22 January when the four accused appeared before the court for a formal bail hearing.

Accused three and four, represented by Legal Aid, did not apply for bail as they are in the country illegally.

The bail applications for accused one and two, filed by their attorney, were opposed by State prosecutor Dinesh Naadkissor .

Magistrate Vincent Pienaar denied both applications on the following grounds: accused one has his five other previous convictions, that include theft, possession of unlicensed ammunition and the aiding and abetting of foreign nationals entering South Africa, as well as the fact that his passport is valid until 6 April which may make him a flight risk.

Accused two was denied bail due to the expiry of his visa on 18 January.

The case was postponed to 26 February for further investigation.The four accused remain in custody.
