Tintinkie pipe to not be fixed until June

RANDPARK RIDGE – Water pipe bursts three times in 10 months.

Johannesburg Water revealed on 14 January that the problematic water pipe underneath Tintinkie Road, Randpark Ridge, will only be replaced in June at the earliest.

According to the entity’s external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela, the pipe has burst three times since March last year, due to wear and tear.

Resident Colin Healy is unhappy with the mess the burst water pipe has made outside his house in Randpark Ridge. Photo supplied.

“The consultant is in the planning stage at the moment,” said Mavimbela. “They estimate that they will start work in June/July to replace the pipes.”

Residents Ailsa and Colin Healy were initially very happy to see the entity’s workers digging around the pipe on 9 January (see previous article), but the problem was found to be more extensive than originally thought.

“They [Johannesburg Water] have… discovered that the water was still coming through from further down the road,” lamented Colin, who is by trade a project manager for CIH Project Services.

“[They] are now planning to look for the source with a leak detector, which is what they should have done first.”

He also complained about the mess left by the leak on the road and in his driveway, and the hole that the entity dug outside his house and which has not yet been filled.
