Domestic worker implicated in Midrand murder

RANDBURG – Domestic worker in Midrand robbery and strangulation case is pregnant and will be applying for bail on 15 January.

Deliwe Patricia Zwakala, the domestic worker arrested for the murder and robbery of Thohira Mitha on 12 December, appeared in Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 13 January. (See previous story).

Zwakala is about seven months pregnant and possibly faces a minimum sentence of life imprisonment.

The laptop was found at her boyfriend’s premises; the hunt for the three suspects is still ongoing.

Yusuf Baba, senior state prosecutor, stated in court, ”There is a confession on file [from Zwakala].”

Attorney for the accused Aubrey Mashiane asked for the case to be postponed until 15 January in order to file a formal bail application.

Zwakala will therefore remain in custody until her next appearance on 15 January.

She has been charged with premeditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The incident occurred at the deceased’s residence at Vista Villa complex in Midrand, where three male suspects entered her home and removed a laptop, iPhone and a firearm.

The robbers allegedly strangled Mitha before leaving the premises.
