It is back to school, come rain or shine !

NORTH RIDING – Most schools in Gauteng opened on the rainy 14 January and teachers had their hands full, comforting those who has separation anxiety on their first day.

Rainy weather did not deter the pupils to go to school on their first day at Trinityhouse, in North Riding on 14 January.

While some kids cried and hanged-on to their mothers, others were happy to be back to school.

Carlos Motha, a parent, comforted his daughter Saskia, who would not want to let go of his hand on the first day of school in 2015.

“Come on sweetheart, everything is going to alright,” Motha, said while comforting his daughter.

Grade 00 and 000 teachers, like Ingrid Holtshausen, hand their hands full with new pupils screaming and running after their parents.

Little Thomas Fryer wanted his mother. “Thomas, was here on Monday, as an attempt to make him settle into school and he was fine. But today [14 January] he wants his mommy. I think it is separation anxiety, and he will be fine later,” explained Holtshausen.

Parents were busy dropping off their kids and rushing off to work and it was business as usual to some pupils.

Nikhara Govender, a Grade 3 pupil made it is easier for her little sister, Shriya who is in Grade 1, to settle into school.

” I enjoy coming to school. I’m helping my little sister,” commented Nikhara.

Principal Lana Meintjies was in high demand with parents wanting her attention and new pupils needing some comfort.

“Some have a problem adjusting because it is their first day, but we are use to it. They will eventually settle into their routine,” Meintjies said.
