Don’t let low grades determine your future

ROODEPOORT — Do not lose your dream of obtaining a qualification because your matric results.

It is easy to fall into the depression pit when you have just completed Grade 12 but do not qualify to study for a bachelor’s degree.

One option that can help you improve your marks without having to repeat matric is signing up for a higher certificate. Completing a higher certificate gives students access to studying further on attaining their degrees.

“A higher certificate in business principles and practice or in IT for instance will give the student access to a Bcom or BA the year after completion. The good news is that the higher certificate is available to anyone who attained a HC pass in their National Senior Certificate,” informed Dr Anne-Ka van den Hoek, academic manager at the Independent Institution of Education.

The dream to study further should not be a lost one for young people – Van den Hoek said students who enrol for a higher certificate can develop key skills that they may have lacked to achieve qualifying marks in the first place. Students can gain a full qualification while mastering the essential skills needed for higher education success.

She added, “These range from how to engage successfully with academic material, how to review information and present it appropriately with the level of synthesis required for successful academic study.”
