Police station numbers are not emergency numbers

LINDEN - Operational Commander, Captain Alex Vermaak of Linden SAPS discusses the proper protocol one should follow in an emergency situation:

Have you ever tried to call the police station in an emergency and it just rings?

According to the Operational Commander, Captain Alex Vermaak of Linden SAPS, ”Members of the public need to dial 10111 or know their sector vehicle numbers in an emergency. Sometimes the station telephone lines are down, it may ring on the caller’s end, but not at the station’s end – therefore it is important to know the relevant protocol to follow.”

The protocol to follow when reporting suspicious activity or crime in progress :

1. Press panic button if you have a security provider

2. Call relevant sector vehicle

3. Call 1011

The numbers for the different sectors within Linden are :

Sector 1. 0716756044 (Blaigowrie, President Ridge, Pine Park, Ferndale (south of Republic), Robin Acres, Robindale east of Malibongwe)

Sector 2. 0716756047 (Linden, Aldarapark, Risidale, Montroux, Victory Park, Pierneef Park, Franklin Rossevelt Park)

Sector 3. 0716756049 (Fontainebleau, Jacanlee, Malanshof, Moret, Ruiterhof, Randpark, Windsor Glen, Robin Hills, Praegville, Robindale (west of Malibongwe)

Sector 4. 0716756050 (Blackheath, Cresta, Darrenwood, Kelland, Windsor East/West)

Vermaak urged the public to also be vigilant when driving at dusk.

“Do not drive into your driveway if you notice someone following you – rather drive straight to your nearest police station,” cautions the captain.
