Case of counterfeit couple postponed

RANDBURG – Counterfeit couple appeared in Randburg Magistrates' Court – case postponed to 19 January.

The counterfeit couple appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 12 January on charges of production and possession of counterfeit money, after their arrest in Lanseria on 9 January.

The case was postponed to 19 January for an identification parade.

The parade will be held to give witnesses an opportunity to positively identify any suspects involved in the case.

The two suspects have been charged with two more cases from the Douglasdale Police Station.

On the day of arrest, the Diepsloot SAPS searched the motor vehicle of the 35-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman.

They found alleged fake R100 notes worth R900 inside the car and arrested the couple.

Further investigations led the police to a guest house on Malibongwe Road, north of Lanseria Airport.

On entering the house, the police found a further amount of R14 000, also made up of alleged fake R100 notes.

More fake notes were still on A5 and A4 printouts.

Laptops, hard drives, ink and a printer were among the other items that were seized.

Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, spokesperson for the Station Commander SAPS Diepsloot commented, ”We are appealing to businesses and members of the public to observe bank notes carefully when involved in cash transactions or receive cash from other persons.”
