What is said to be the worst building in Bordeaux has now been fenced-off from the public.
This as the derelict Vodacom-owned property on the corner of Bordeaux Drive and Darnoc Avenue is being prepared for demolition (see previous article).
It was previously home to about 10 vagrants.
The latest step Vodacom has taken was to erect a corrugated iron fence around the property, with a lock and chain to keep all trespassers out.
“I am glad they [Vodacom] did this,” said Bordeaux North Community Forum chairperson Shanaaz Bailey. “The security before was a joke.” Recently, Vodacom executive head of media relations Richard Boorman said that the company received approval from the City of Johannesburg for the demolition, and it now just needs to appoint a contractor before demolition will begin. Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “The building is derelict and in need of urgent attention”.
