Abacus Maths does it again

NORTHSIDE – Annual maths competition a roaring success.

The annual Abacus Maths Competition was held again in Boskruin, Randburg, and many young calculate geniuses showed off their amazing math skills.

“We had our dictation championship where pupils had to calculate sums with answers being in the millions and billions,” said a proud Sharné Bresler, an Abacus Maths representative. “To see them accomplish this was totally amazing and inspiring.”

Abacus Maths aims to promote a different way of teaching math through the use of an abacus. This method helps to develop the right brain, and pupils show a remarkable ability for solving complex math problems by using mental arithmetic alone, no calculators.

Their programmes have been helping to produce highly successful mathematicians in countries like Japan, China, Singapore, America, India and Taiwan. Since being established in South Africa in 2011, the Abacus Maths programme has helped turn our little South African mathematicians, into super mathe-magicians.
