Taxi rolls on Rabie and Republic

FONTAINEBLEAU – A minibus taxi rolls, smashing all the windows on the right-hand side of the vehicle.

A minibus taxi rolled when it collided with a grey Merceedes Benz in an accident on 1 December in the morning on Rabie Street crossing with Republic Road in Fontainebleau.

The white minibus taxi was travelling up Rabie Street when it overturned. All of the right-hand-side windows have been completely smashed as well as the mirror and windscreen.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring commented regarding the injuries involved in the taxi. Meiring comments, ”Eight people were left injured … A taxi lay on its side in the one lane of the road blocking traffic. On assessment, paramedics found that eight people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. It is believed that the taxi’s brakes apparently failed, causing the taxi to roll and colliding with another light motor vehicle. The patients were treated by paramedics and thereafter transported to hospital for further observations. The driver of the light motor vehicle fortunately did not

sustain any injuries.”

The driver of the minibus taxi refused to speak to the media. An eyewitness, who chooses not to be named, said “All they saw was the taxi skidding on the ground with glass everywhere.

“The JMPD officers that were on seen declined comment. Chief Superintendent WayneMinnaar of JMPD commented, ”The accident involved a white minibus taxi and a grey Mercedes Benz. The cause of the accident will be investigated. The eight injured passengers have been transported to Helen Joseph Hospital.”
