Best community newspaper in Joburg

ROSEBANK – 'Randburg Sun' voted the best by companies and government in Joburg.

The Randburg Sun was rated the best community newspaper in Johannesburg by the city’s top business owners and government officials over a 12-month period – it was announced on 1 December.

PMR.africa (Professional Market Research Africa) held its Business Excellence Awards Breakfast at Hyatt Regency Johannesburg, in Rosebank, revealing the results of an extensive research project.

Between May and July 2014 the organisation interviewed 140 CEOs, managing directors, business owners, company directors and managers and senior government officials in the City of Johannesburg.

The research survey sought to find out which were the best companies and institutions in the City over the preceding 12 months.

Criteria included: contribution to the economic growth and development of the City of Johannesburg, managerial expertise, corporate governance, brand awareness, marketing efforts, and innovation.

The Randburg Sun was awarded the best local newspaper with a rating of 4.10 out of 5, ahead of Sandton Chronicle with 3.75, and Rosebank Killarney Gazette with 3.60 points.

“It is encouraging to know that there are officials and CEOs out there who believe in Randburg Sun as a community newspaper,” said Randburg Sun news editor Mpume Nzimande.

“We always try to do our best to serve the community. The PMR award is an honour to the Randburg Sun team.”

Sammi-Jo Botha, group editor for the Caxton Johannesburg North West Branch, said that Randburg Sun has operated for many years and gained the trust of its community.

She added that the newspaper strives to provide quality and accurate news on its website and in the newspaper, and caters for everyone in its community.

“What makes the Randburg Sun so good is the team of people that makes it up,” said the branch manager Chris Halstead.

PMR.africa CEO Johan Hattingh said that the awards were given to honour the teams behind successful companies, and to show South Africa that its companies can compete with others around the world.

The Randpark Golf Club was awarded first place in the City for executive lifestyle, and Johannesburg Zoo was awarded the top tourist attraction in the City.
