Public petition for Private Member’s Bill

RANDBURG – Petition in support of Bill to hold trade unions accountable for strike violence.

A Private Member’s Bill on strike violence drafted by the Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister of Labour Ian Ollis

MP has been gazetted for public comment for the next 30 days.

Ward 98 councillor, Laurette van Zijl suggests, ”This very important piece of legislation has the aim of ensuring that labour protests are

held peacefully and within the rule of law, and equally as important, to hold unions accountable for any injury or damage that is caused during such protests by their members. I would like to urge as many individuals and concerns as possible to engage with this Bill and support the adoption of it by submitting their formal written submissions to Parliament.”

Deadline for submissions is on 3 December 2014.

Written representations can be submitted to the acting secretary of Parliament, Ms B Tyawa in the following ways:
