Load shedding scheduled across Joburg today

JOBURG – Eskom has issued a Stage 1 load shedding alert across Joburg after another weakness was found at one of the silos at Majuba Power Station in Mpumalanga earlier this week.

Load shedding is expected to last up until 8pm tonight and there is also a risk of it continuing throughout the weekend.

“We appeal to residents to please switch off their pool pumps, geysers and all electric appliances not currently being utilised,” stated Eskom representative Andrew Etzinger. “This will alleviate pressure on our systems at the moment and will prevent further load shedding from being implemented.”

Sol Mosolo, City Power spokesperson agreed with Etzinger’s statement. “Saving electricity by lowering consumption will mitigate load shedding and reduce the chances of rolling blackouts.”
Residents and businesses are encouraged to prepare for planned power outages.
