Five ways to be safe on the road

RANDBURG – Emergency Care says we all have the right to use the road, but with rights come responsibilities.

Emergency Care spokesperson Donovan Roestorff lists five things one can do to be more safe on the road this festive season.

In the festive season we have an increase in motor vehicle accidents.

Statistically, as a country, we average a rate of about 2 000 accidents per day nation-wide.

We all have the right to the road but with rights come responsibilities and this is where our problem originates.

Not everybody commits themselves to the responsibilities that come with their rights.

So safety starts with us:

  • Maintain your vehicle in a roadworthy condition .
  • Abide by the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Always anticipate other drivers’ reactions and plan a couple of seconds ahead.
  • Always make sure you have a way out of any unexpected incident.
