Local team ready for Coronation Double Century Cycle Challenge

METRO - Team Double Strokes, the cycling team of Johannesburg North will tackle 202km in Swellendam.

The 22nd Coronation Double Century is a cycling event that will take place in Swellendam on 22 November.

The annual race attracts teams from across the country to tackle the challenging 202km route, and this year a team based in the Randburg, Bryanston and Fourways areas will join the other 200-odd teams for a test of skill and endurance.

Team Double Strokes is made up of a group of tandem 12 riders in Johannesburg who will make their way down to Cape Town to tackle this annual

event, in the hopes of finishing the entire route in seven hours!

They have been putting in the mileage – including rides from Broad Acres to The Cradle – and love participating in this event because it is the longest and toughest single-stage race.

Team captain Graeme Teeling-Smith from Randburg has been a cyclist for about 25 years, and says that his team is looking forward to the flat and downhill parts of the route, but also the tough climbs right at the end.

Graeme will be joined by his wife, Angela, on a tandem bike at this year’s race.
