RANDBURG – Motorist stuck with an axe in head and arm as road rage fight breaks out.

A man, who allegedly struck a fellow motorist with an axe at least three times, appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, Kensington B, on 10 November.

He is charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property for his actions during a road rage incident starting on Malibongwe Drive, Randburg, on 8 November.

The case was postponed to 13 December.

Media reported that the altercation began when a 30-year-old motorist from Cosmo City changed lanes in front of the accused on Malibongwe Drive because road works were in progress.

The accused became angry and allegedly swore and hooted at the driver.

Then, at a red traffic light, the accused stepped out of his vehicle holding an axe.

He allegedly broke the driver’s car window with the axe. The glass cut the driver’s face.

The accused allegedly swung the axe inside the vehicle and struck the driver on the arm.

In an attempt to flee, the driver put his car in reverse and drove into the accused’s vehicle behind him.

This made the accused angrier, and he started hitting the driver’s vehicle with the axe.

The driver put his car into first gear and sped away.

Now on the highway, the accused caught up to the Cosmo City driver, and forced him to stop.

They both stepped out of their vehicles.

The accused allegedly hit the driver again with the axe twice on the head, which caused him to bleed profusely.

With blood in his eyes, the driver allegedly snatched the axe and threw it to the ground.

Then he held the accused tightly and hit him repeatedly with his fists. Paramedics arrived and the fight stopped.

Randburg Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johannes Maja said that he was on scene.

He said that a case had been opened at Honeydew Police Station, but would not divulge more details, as the docket was taken to court.
