Damaged fire hydrant couses water to gush down President Fouche

Damaged fire hydrant causes major water loss

A fire hydrant located at BP Olivedale is damaged and it is alleged that it caused water to gush down President Fouche and Christo Road near the Netcare Olivedale Hospital.

The cause of the damage was allegedly caused by a third party contractor that was supposedly at the wrong place and reversed into the hydrant.

According to the residents, this occurred around 1pm on 6 November.

Joburg Water employees who were fixing the water hydrant, on Windsor Way, did not want to talk to this newspaper.

Estie du Toit Communication Manager for BP stated that “(BP) really regret the loss of water and that they had notified the responsible authorities immediately”.

Ward Councillor 101 Ralf Bittkau commented that he was aware of the problem and that Joburg Water was attending to it.

“Joburg Water was called yesterday [6 November] to attend to the issue, however it could not be fixed due to reasons that were not revealed”.

Questions were sent to Joburg Water’s spokesperson, but no response was forthcoming before going to print
