Electricity outage hits large parts of Joburg

LINDEN – Electricity outage hit large parts of Johannesburg areas on 21 October

Sudden power cuts that hit large parts of Johannesburg might have left local residents shocked.

Linden Neighbourhood Watch’s Fareed Hoosen informed that parts of Northcliff, Linden, Emmarentia, Parkview, Blairgowrie, Roosevelt, Blackheath and Fairlands – to name a few – were affected by the power outage.

“I don’t know if it is a huge problem because large parts of our areas are affected,” he said.

Ward 99 councilor Bruce Herbert confirmed that he is aware of the power cuts and residents should not be alarmed.

“I am aware of the power outage, City power is doing certain adjustments and upgrades,” he informed.

However, City Power’s senior communication officer Sydney Mphahlele informed, “We lost a transformer at Roosevelt and it affected other areas as well. The power went off at 11:49am but the technicians are currently working on it.”

Mphahlele explained that it is not clear when the power will be restored back.

Roosevelt Park and Linden power seems to be restored.
