Community plants 100 trees at Golden Harvest Park

Golden Harvest Park builds a wheelchair friendly bridge and plants 100 trees for the community to enjoy.

Golden Harvest Park witnessed the unveiling of a new bridge and the planting of a monumental 100 trees on 18 October.

Friends of Golden Harvest held a day of fun in the sun and Miss Earth South Africa Ilzé Saunders unveiled the wheelchair-friendly bridge which is in connection with the pathway previously built for the Anne Harding Cheshire Homes.

The team, along with numerous volunteers, gathered to plant 100 trees in the park.

Adri Albertyn of Friends of Golden Harvest Park Committee said, “We assist City Parks in the maintenance and upkeep of the park. Often it is difficult for the community to be able to communicate with City Parks effectively, so we are a voice for the visitors of the park. We ensure the park is used for the right reasons, by planting the trees and building the bridge we feel that it will better serve the community.”

Residents were able to collect their new keys for the many pedestrian gates around the park.

Pippa Weperner of Friends of Golden Harvest Park Committee commented, “It has been amazing to see the community coming to help plant the trees, from the Adiero Girls Scouts, to co-founder of Baken Akademie Jurie Groenewald, to the residents. The support has been immense and the love for the park is felt all around.”

The park hosts a number of beautiful scenic views and paths, they even have soccer practices on Wednesdays and Bootcamp classes on Saturdays.
