I am an owner of a property on Robyn St.

In Jukskei Park where the traffic, both cars and motor bikes regularly go at speeds of well over 100km.

In the past ( a good 10 years ago) I tried to get “speed- bumps” on the corner of Nikkel and Robyn Streets because there was a

crèche.

I organised a petition which was signed by approx 150 people who lived in the area or who had children at the crèche.

It was presented to council by the then DA municipal member, then was “lost” in the system.

About 4 years ago I asked if perhaps JMPD could try some sort of traffic control, perhaps speed cameras.

This road is used as a shortcut from Witkoppen to either Bryanston or Olivedale, and being a shortcut, is used by people in a

hurry and thus travelling at fast speed, with the result that often residents have a problem trying to get out of their properties, and

heaven help anyone if children or animals get out onto the road.

Yesterday evening, a young man of approx 27, went into the back of a car that was turning right into a driveway and was killed.

HE WAS GOING TOO FAST.

The police were called, as were the parents and I assume everything was done according to the law.

2 things.

The body was there for well over 3 hours – which I personally find unacceptable: and secondly – this could have been

avoided.

Please let me know your response to an ongoing problem.
