Seven injured as two buses and taxi collide

NORTH RIDING – Bus cannot brake in time and causes an accident involving five vehicles.

Seven people were injured in an accident involving five vehicles on the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Witkoppen Road, North Riding on 6 October. All the injured were taken to various hospitals and treated. A case has been opened with Honeydew Police.

An eye-witness to the accident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that during the morning a bus was parked at the intersection as the traffic light was red. Another bus came rapidly from behind. Although it braked and skidded, it failed to stop and smashed into the first bus, driving them both into the middle of the intersection. The buses hit a taxi, a bakkie and a car.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that seven people sustained injuries ranging from “minor to moderate”. “The driver of the bus lay

trapped in his vehicle and was in a critical condition,” Meiring said. “Provincial fire services had to use the Jaws of Life to free the patient before treatment could continue.” All the injured were transported to various hospitals, where they are under observation.
