AKC is a non-profit organisation running 21 houses for vulnerable children in Gauteng, including houses in Fontainebleau, Risidale, and Linden.

The dinner paid host to celebrities of the sporting, TV soap, music and entertainment industries.

Corporates and donors each paid R15 000 to book a table with celebrity couples.

The proceeds went to the education and development programmes of about 1 000 children.

These children are vulnerable due to being orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, or as result of abuse, molestation and abandonment.

Celebrities in attendance included Joseph Clark, Jennifer Jones, Charlize and Jaco Berg, Scot Scott and Golden Lions rugby players.

Entertainment was provided by volunteering musicians, with complementing performances by some children of the organisation.

“Apart from the great fundraising success, we are proud of the opportunity created for the little ones to blossom,” said social funding developer for the organisation Annamart Viljoen.

“They felt so special, seeing for themselves that there are grown-ups out there committed to their well-being.”
