Road rage murder case goes to High Court

ROODEPOORT – Family of biker shot dead on Malibongwe Drive still has faith in the justice system.

The case against Meekahefele Masooa, the man accused of murdering Randpark Ridge resident and biker, Dougl Pearce, has been transferred to the South Gauteng High Court by Magistrate Denise Smith.

The case is set to be heard from 26 January to 13 February 2015.

Masooa, a legal advisor from Irene in Centurion, allegedly shot and killed Pearce in a fit of road rage on 14 February on Malibongwe Drive.

Family to the deceased were surprised that a date for the High Court was set so quickly, as they expected the wheels of justice to turn a lot slower.

“We’re happy that the matter will appear so soon,” said spokesperson for the family, Bronwyn Ingram. “We have faith in the justice system and will continue to have faith throughout the proceedings.”

Ingram again urged any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information, to contact the investigating officer, Michael Erasmus on 079 889 6518.

Pearce is survived by his wife, Tammy and five-year-old daughter, who have exuded gratitude for the amount of support they have received from friends and the biking community in Randburg.

“We’re coping as well as can be expected,” said Tammy outside of the court, considering they have lost a loving husband and father.

Friends of the Pearce family are planning to host a fundraiser on 2 November at Berlin Restaurant in Ruimsig, in honour of Pearce’s 40th birthday, which would have been on 28 October. Pearce was a breadwinner and all proceeds will be given to Tammy in order to support her daughter.
