Randburg Police succeed again

RANDBURG – Police win another battle in the fight against crime.

As the fight against high levels of crime continue, Randburg Police have come a few steps closer recently to winning the battle.

According to Warrant Officer Johannes Maja, three suspects were recently found guilty in Randburg Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to prison.

Maja praised Sergeant Detective Wayne Lamprecht for his continual commitment in investigating crime, which led to the convictions.

“Sphiwe David Khumalo (31) was sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” stated Maja. “George Gomus (33) was sentenced to 50 years for robbery.”

Another accused, Tabeng Berente (25) was sentenced to seven years for murder. “It is alleged that the suspect got into an argument with the deceased and he then stabbed him to death. The police got information on his whereabouts and arrested him.”

During the weekend of 22 to 27 September, police held operations in order to address crime and suspects were arrested for different crimes such as possession of cannibis, shoplifting, theft, common robbery, fraud, theft out of motor vehicle, assault, drunken driving, as well as reckless and negligent driving.

The suspects will appear in the different courts around the West Rand cluster, Randburg and Roodepoort.
